Newscaster: In health news today did you know that September is prostate health awareness month?

Newscaster: Prostate cancer strikes one in every six men over sixty. But now a doctor here in Austin is providing a new less painful way to treat this very common condition, but we do have a warning though. Some of the pictures of the medical procedure are very graphic.

Newscaster:69 year old Jerry Wilfried sitting at home relaxing just three days after undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

Wilfried: It was essentially no pain it was a very easy procedure to go through

Newscaster: Wilson case is typical he had no symptoms, instead a blood test that detected specific prostate antigens lead to the cancer diagnosis.

Dr. Randy Fagin: The prostate gland sits right here

Newscaster: But thanks to Dr Randy Fagin Prostate cancer patients in Austin have another treatment option besides radiation and traditional surgery. Dr Fagin is one of the three Urologist in Texas trained to perform prostate laparoscopy surgery. It involves cutting several small opening in a patients abdomen and inserting cameras that magnify the area. This allows doctors to probe and freeze cancer cells. The benefits to patients are many.

Wilfried: Earlier return to urinary control earlier return to regular activity, quicker discharge from the hospital, less pain, less blood loss. There all tremendous, tremendous advantages.

Newscaster: Without laparoscopy surgery, Wilfred would likely still be at the hospital, still under heavy pain medication and still months away from enjoying retirement with his wife Nancy.

Wilfried: The new procedure that Dr. Fagin is doing is very easy, very quick very quick recovery period and I guess as about as close as you can get to no pain.

Newscaster: In the US 189,000 cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed annually more than 30,000 die every year. For more information on this procedure and to find out more about prostate cancer health awareness month log on to kvue.com check under recent news links.
